Puntarenas is the sea port from which the ferries sail to the Nicoya Peninsula.  At first glance, it seems like a typical, unappealing seaport.  But if you have an hour or so to kill while awaiting the next ferry, ask your drive to take you to these two, side by side bar/restaurants - Los Kaites - one is El Kaite Negro (The Black Sandal) and the other El Kaite Blanco (the White Sandal).  They have been in friendly competition for many years!  BY THE WAY:  no, they aren't "biker" bars - it just so happened that on the Sunday afternoon these photos were taken, a bunch of friends brought their bikes down here from San Jose for lunch!  You don't often see Harley-Davidsons in Costa Rica!!
